Here she is the finished product. 143 man hours of design and construction and a few nuts and bolts later.

The kayak weighed in right at 50lbs with everything.  Not too shabby for a plywood kayak with 4 hatches, 3 watertight bulkheads and a built in rudder.

She has a carbon fiber foot brace with integrated rudder pedals, Sea-Lect hatches and a glove compartment on the fore deck. According to her new owner she is agile, fast, well balanced and a delight to paddle. Here are some pictures of the final assembly.

Boat Plans Wood | Hard Dodgers for cruising sailboats Custom designed and built

Boat Plans Wood

Over the years I have designed and built Hard Dodgers and Hard Biminis for various clients and their cruising yachts /sailboat.
I have cruised many ocean miles with a hard dodger on my own sail boat in much greater comfort than when I only had a cloth dodger. Most especially on my Alaskan trips.






Included with the following pictures are cad generated pictures of some dodger styles that are suitable for amateur building.

Building of theses styles can be in laminated ply, which is totally glassed, or composite panel, with a foam or plastic honeycomb, core.
A ply, plastic honeycomb, and ply sandwich composition can also be used to very good effect in the tops.
